Wellnomics® Recorder
Would you like to measure computer use and exposure levels reliably?
Wellnomics
® Recorder, a component of the Wellnomics Risk Management solution, is designed to monitor and record summary statistics on the exposure levels of each individual’s computer use.
Wellnomics Recorder is the first scientifically validated software for measuring computer use1, and is currently installed and running on over one million desktops worldwide as part of the popular Wellnomics WorkPace breaks and exercises software2.
The software runs in the background on everyone’s desktop and records the time spent at the computer, mouse use and keystrokes, and how often breaks are taken.
Recorded Statistics
The specific statistics recorded by Wellnomics include:
Usage
Time using Computer
Time using Keyboard
Time using Mouse
Time of first computer use
Time of last computer use
Keyboard
Number of keystrokes
Keystroke totals for each key on the keyboard
Mouse
Mouse clicks (single and double)
Scroll wheel use
Number of mouse movements
Mouse travel distance
Breaks
Number of micropauses taken
Number of breaks taken
Work rest profile (average length of usage periods and average length of break periods)
Applications
Time spent using each application
Number of keystrokes per application
Mouse use per application
Data Storage
A summary of these statistics is recorded for every day and then saved in an encoded and password protected file for each office worker. Because only summary statistics are recorded, and the data file is also compressed, total storage requirements are less than 1kB per day or about 100kB per annum per user. This data can be periodically uploaded from each worker’s desktop to a centralised server
3 for further analysis.
Memory and CPU requirements for Wellnomics Recorder are minimal, requiring less than 1% of CPU and just 5MB of memory while running. The reliability and stability of Wellnomics Recorder is well proven, with the software successfully running on over one million desktops worldwide to date.
The Advantages of Measuring Computer Use Exposure Accurately
Wellnomics Recorder provides significant advantages over previously used methods for assessing computer use, such as user self reports.
As the charts below show, user self-reports are inaccurate and poorly correlated with actual exposure. By contrast, measurements from Wellnomics Recorder are strongly correlated.

Wellnomics Recorder also provides far more information on work patterns at the computer than other methods – as the large number of statistics available shows.
Used by many scientific studies around the world4, Wellnomics Recorder has become a de-facto standard for measuring computer use exposure levels in office workers. Wellnomics Recorder is a well tested and proven tool.
