Living in Christchurch
Christchurch is a city that lets you dictate the pace to suit your life - be it relaxing or action packed.
With a population of 350,000, Christchurch is most commonly described as New Zealand's slice of England, with picturesque parks, stunning gardens and the history and charm of the many Victorian and colonial buildings throughout the city.
The beauty of the old is perfectly balanced by the city's vibrant cultural scene. A bustling nightlife, strong arts focus, thriving café and bars and a number of wineries all provide hours of entertainment to suit your tastes.
Recreation is also well catered for, with the city's natural surroundings providing unspoilt playgrounds for a host of activities. Just minutes from the city, a round of golf can be enjoyed on one of a number of quality courses, or if you'd prefer, sprawling beaches offer the perfect destination to relax in the sand or play amongst the waves.
If getting close to nature is more your thing, the Port Hills are the place for you. Towering on the outskirts of the city, the hills are a favourite among mountain bikers, walkers and those who appreciate the captivating scenery that is there to be taken in.
Within an hour's drive of Christchurch are the spectacular southern alps of New Zealand. With magnificent scenery used throughout the Lord of the Rings films, there is everything an adventurer could want - with skiing, kayaking, hiking, climbing and hot springs, and further south, bungy jumping, jet boating, and yet more skiing.
Christchurch's climate is the envy of many, delivering the best to suit the season - balmy in summer and cool in winter - perfect for those alpine activities!
All levels of education are well catered for, with an excellent selection of educational facilities, including Canterbury University.
